Have you attempts at dieting missed this critical factor?
Learn the psychological secrets that guarantee permanent weight loss…
You’ve struggled with your weight; you’ve tried a couple of diets and exercise programmes that worked for other people. You’re probably aware that the number one problem is your own behaviour and thinking. It’s uncomfortable for many to admit, but if we all followed through with the basic diet and exercise we know that we should, obesity wouldn’t be the epidemic that it is.
Getting the right information to assist you in successfully and permanently losing weight is often the challenge. For every miracle diet or exercise plan, another self confessed “expert” will surely present the exact opposite point of view, with the exact same (frustrating!) sense of confidence and certainty. Funnily enough, none of the experts or miracles will help unless you can make them work.
This article aims to help people make major transformations in their health and lives by showing them how to transform their thinking.
Imagine how effortlessly and quickly you could achieve your ideal weight and body image if you could re-program your brain to feel highly motivated at all times. Picture yourself with zero self-sabotage and a 100% commitment to healthy lifestyle.
Such seemingly distant states of mind are actually well within your grasp. A simple shift in thinking, consciously applied for 15-30 days, is all that it takes to make a mental breakthrough that guarantees your future success.
Our experience has shown us that the number one factor that determines successful and permanent weight loss, for everyone, is one’s ability to “win the mind game”.
We’ve studied and modelled the behaviours and psychology of people who have achieved their ideal body image and weight. These individuals have used loads of different diets and exercise techniques but the one consistent quality that all of them share, that guarantees their success, is their success in overcoming their own ineffective thought patterns – making a breakthrough to achieve extraordinary results.
By taking action and using the techniques presented in this article, you too can win that mental battle once and for all. We’re going to show you how to make breakthrough, transform yourself and live an extraordinary life.
Firstly, you need to create some motivational drive. A rapid way to ignite motivation is to set yourself a tangible goal. It you can’t describe your ideal body then it is unlikely you’ll ever create it. You need to write this down and you need to be specific: What will you weigh, what will your dress size or waist measurement be? Will you be lean and toned or muscular?
The critical component in goal setting is a timeframe – you need a date to achieve this ideal body by. You’ve also got to remain healthy while losing weight, so don’t get unreal with your expectations – at the same time, challenge yourself.
When we work with clients we have them write a goal that describes a snapshot of their ideal future. This is a psychological technique that switches on the brain and moves you in the right direction.
The following is an outstanding goal from one of our clients, Joanne (not her real name):
“It is the 21st of August 2009 and I am standing in front of my bedroom mirror, in a size 12 dress that I bought specially for today. I look gorgeous, confident and sexy – I say to myself so that only I can hear: “you’ve done it girl!” I feel like a million dollars.
Notice Joanne worded her goal in the present tense and included some exciting language? You need to create a goal that is emotionally compelling. You will easily be motivated towards things that feel fantastic – so make your goal feel incredible.
This ability to create compelling visions of the future is going to be critical to your success. In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, you need to start considering your actions (specifically: eating and exercise) with an eye for future consequences.
Reinforce positive food choices and exercise with visions of the rewarding future you’ll experience as a direct result of consistently eating well and working out. Too many people fail to go to the gym simply because they wake up in the morning and visualise the most painful parts of working out – sweating away on a machine, running through the rain just to get to the gym.
Conversely, the people who improve their bodies, daily, effortlessly motivate themselves by visualising the end result of their efforts. This means that they wake up and imagine themselves feeling energised, more alert, lithe and strong. They imagine the way they’ll look in another six months when they’ve toned their belly flat.
Working out can be painful, tiring and boring. It can also be invigorating and challenging. Either way, its best to focus on the reasons why you want to exercise – those reasons will get you out of bed in the morning. Imagining the endless trudge of a treadmill won’t.
The same principal applies to eating. When you look at that pile of leafy greens, don’t spend time imagining the feeling of slowly chewing up that salad. Imagine what you’ll look like in 6 months, if you continue eating salad for lunch everyday.
The real secret though, is learning how to direct your negative thoughts (and yeah, we all have them) to useful places. Next time you stare at a chocolate cake, and it begins to seduce – get negative!
Yes, that’s right. You need to vividly imagine what will happen to you (and your waist) if you eat that cake today and tomorrow, and the next day, and the…
Motivate yourself away from the things that you don’t want. Do you ever wonder how some people seem to effortlessly resist chocolate and sweets? They simply have a difference internal meaning for those treats – they know that they taste good, but they don’t seduce themselves into actually eating the stuff! Instead, they imagine the compounding effect of a lifetime of eating sugary rubbish. They briefly focus on the fact that a slice of cake will ruin their afternoon with a blood-sugar crash. They make the decision to live healthily.
If you find yourself procrastinating exercise and you want to jump start your motivation engine, simply imagine what daily procrastination will do to you over the next year.
Joanne got emotive with her goal, feel free to really freak yourself out with purposeful negativity – imagine the consequences of cake and procrastination vividly.
People who are into positive thinking will be questioning these tactics right about now, thinking; “That sounds very destructive and negative!” The truth is we all have negative thoughts, either directed at other people or things, or towards ourselves – for not living up to our own expectations.
Use your negativity, in a constructive way, to make a powerfully positive force. Push yourself away from your old unhealthy lifestyle and look towards a bright new future.
The single defining factor shared by everyone who has lost weight and maintained their ideal body shape is a total transformation in thinking. That transformation starts with you making the breakthrough realisation that you can, and must, easily motivate yourself by consciously shifting your thinking.
Start vividly contemplating a positive future where you achieve the results you want – it’ll get easier and easier, day after day.
